Before I start the GIVE of the day I wanted to share a note with you from a dear friend and great supporter. Thank you Jack!
365 Give I liked the name and philosophy from the first time I heard you speak of the concept. Yes I thought it was Way ambitious but it has a nice ring and gives a mental image of really what each of us could do each day in a small way.
I have given some thought to your Chefs Challenge participation and I would like to enter the spirit of your philosophy and give 1 dollar a day for 365 days or to make it simple one cheque for $365.
Good luck on this quest
“We’re not perfect. After all, this kind of transformation is bound to have some bumps along the road. But we’re trying in big ways – and we hope you will, too. Because no matter how hard we work, we can’t close the loop without you.”
This is a quote taken from the Nike Shoe Reuse Program. It a great example how a massive company is doing their part to move towards more sustainability. I was recently in a Nike Store and spotted the “reuse” box as I entered. I’m a runner and have been running for 20 years. I still do – hell I have a 3 year son I try to keep up with every day. I have run a lot of miles and I have been through a lot of shoes. When I think about it at least 2 pairs of runners every year – 40 pairs over the last 20 years not including just fun fashion runners. Times that by a nation and that is a lot of shoes potentially going into a landfill.
Now I can drop my shoes at a Nike Store and my carbon footprint just became a little better.
Today’s my son and I went to our local Nike store and dropped 2 pairs of running shoes into the Reuse a Shoe box. The shoes will be broken down and reused for playing court surfaces (basketball, tennis) and other Nike products.
As stated by Nike: ” you’ll be helping the world reduce it’s footprint – one step at a time.”
