The giving in Vancouver continues today as I shed some more light on the good hearted, giving people of our city. Today’s give was to the local West Vancouver SPCA but I also got a big give back as well!
Day 273: Give 273
This is not the first time I have posted about the SPCA they are an organization I support a number of times a year every year. (Give 183 & Give 48) I was out walking my dogs this morning in an off leash dog area in West Vancouver and a lovely young women ( a volunteer) was stopping every dog owner to inform them of a special fundraising event happening just around the corner at the SPCA. Our local animal shelter. Volunteers were waiting to wash my dogs! I am liking this give more and more. One of my dogs recently got skunked and she could use yet another bath with some nice smelly soap. My “give of the day” had landed right in my lap and I wanted to show my support to such a great organization. I had a lot of things to get done that day and I almost didn’t go but I decided giving to the SPCA was more important than anything else I could get done on my “to do” list.
The SPCA rescues and cares for so many animals that have been abandon and abused. They find them homes and provide medical care and support until the day they get a family.
One of the best parts of this give were some of the volunteers I met. Terry Picha and Mark Wilkinson washed my dogs like pros. I was told Terry is one of the most dedicated volunteers at the West Vancouver SPCA. We had a great chat about giving and her comment that she left me with was “giving just makes me feel good.” Mark is a fire fighter – he already gives back every day in his job and now during his time off he continues his giving and helps our community, he helps the animals. Everyone washing the dogs were volunteers for the SPCA and their dedication is unwavering. They got sprayed by wet dogs with every wash but they just kept on giving.
If you are a Vancouver resident the next fundraising dog was is August, 28, 2011. Mark it in your calendars! Have you ever done something to give to your local animal shelter? Share your story with us.
