Today was one of those days that was hard to give. My head was stuffed, my throat was sore and I was on the verge of coming down with the flu. Oh! the good old days when you could hop into bed and just not do anything all day. A sick day. How precious those are. Once you decide to have children and be a stay at home working Mom there is not such thing as a sick day. It’s called a working sick day. Come on all you Mom’s out there – send me a note and sympathize with me!
So back to the give – I’m sick, tired, have a son to take care of, a business to run and I have to give. What am I insane! Then an email comes through and it’s a call to action. I had to do a little more today not for myself but a Mom that needed my help.
Day 211: Give 211
Many times on my site I have given you the opportunity to go into action – to give. There have been opportunities to click to give, tweet to give, donate or you could do nothing. What did you chose? Today I got an email I could have easily ignored or just emailed back a simple note saying “I can’t help today, I’m sick.” But I just couldn’t do it. So tonight after my son had gone to bed, the laundry was done, the kitchen cleaned from dinner and the dogs fed I had a date with Craig (don’t tell my husband – lol) that is the craigslist. Here is the email I got and you tell me if you could walk away.
- Crib, bathtub
- baby clothes (tiny)
- Would also like stroller, swing, high chair, toys
Are you able to get your team to help with this? Work you magic…..”
Oh the magic is running through my hands right now as I twitch my nose and it all just appears. Call in the troops, get onto the craigslist and ask everyone you know that lives in Vancouver to help. Vancouver are you out there?
I volunteer for an organization called Spectrum that supports mothers in need. I couldn’t imagine what it would have been like when my son came home and I didn’t have anything for him. It’s hard enough to be a new Mom but to have nothing around you only makes it that much more difficult. In the next few days between my Mom friends, craigslist and a few second hand stores I will have a car load of gear to take to this Mom. If you know anyone in Vancouver that can help please Facebook, email or tweet this give around. I’m hoping you won’t be able to ignore it.
